A Series of Not-So-Fortunate Events

This spring break I shall indulge myself to the utmost extent of my abilities. I am going to spend my break, albeit a short one, doing the things I love. I plan on checking off at least nine books on my to read list, Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning being at the top of the list. I intend to produce at least 13 drawings per day, some of which might be paintings. I also intend to sleep for unnaturally long periods of time, and for most of my break.

A slightly odd event which shall take place over my break is the unusual ritual that many females seem to do; a sleepover. This is odd for me due to the fact that I am very much a tomboy and due to that I am rarely invited to such events. Or maybe it is my acerbic personality, never the matter this will prove to be an interesting event.

As well I feel as though I aught to mention the very obvious and very sad fact that I am not going away for my too short break. For those of you who have heard of Manitoba you may have heard of some of the particularly nasty weather we tend to get even in Summer. It is currently in the range of -20 to -5, the temperature dropping in the mornings and heating up only a little in the afternoons before dropping back down to ridiculous temperatures even for this time of year. As it would seem I am to suffer for quite a bit longer, nearly all of the tolerable people which I am acquainted with all seem to be going to places that are currently sitting at +30 or above.

I am most looking forward to a lack of school work which accompanies every other week of my life. Yay for me! (For those of you who know me you read that in a highly sarcastic tone, and envisioned me waving a small flag rather drearily.)

I feel like this picture best represents me on my brief break from the joy that is high school. I plan on making the most of my break by being as pleasant as this here feline would appear to be. But I also feel like it might resemble a Cyanide and Happiness comic, probably exactly like the below one.

The fat guy, that's me. I am going to spend the break trying to reach for that cupcake. Metaphorically speaking of course, that cupcake is relaxation. I always intend to relax and enjoy any and all free time I may have but usually the drama of those around me makes that impossible. So like the fat guy I will end up unhappy and needing an industrial crane lift to pull me out of the floor/pile of drama. That guy in green is life metaphorically speaking once again and he is obviously enjoying every minuet of my/fat guys misery.

No Mercy

No Mercy is a thrilling novel that keeps you trapped withing its pages, the words swirling around you, intoxicating. The plot, the characters, everything about this book is amazing. I cannot decide what part is my favorite, the intricate text work and design, or the depth of the individual characters. So I'll start by saying this is the best series I have had the pleasure of reading, every book hooks me more and this just continues to pull me deeper into the dark wonderful world that Sherrilyn Kenyon has created.

Deveraux Peltier is handsome, strong, and his dry sense of humor leaves people gasping for breath and clutching their stomachs. Samia is dangerous, intelligent, and gorgeous.s.

Sam has lived by the Amazon creed her entire life, she even died by it. Live fast, fight hard and if you have to die then take as many of your enemies with you as you can. Sam is now an immortal being and she protects the mortals from the evil that lurks around every corner. Dev is a shapeshifter, a guard dog- or rather bear for the local bar and grill; Sanctuary. He has been a bouncer for almost 200 years and has locked horns with almost every creature out there, then he came across the most deadly of all.

Samia comes hurtling into Dev's life at top speed literally and Dev is left stunned by this woman who even demons fear. Together they have to face the deadliest opponent of all, Daimons who walk in daylight, and the great Atlantean Destroyer Apollymi.

If the characters weren't perfect enough the addictive action keeps your heart beating fast. Once and Amazon, Sam became a Dark Hunter with the help of the Greek goddess Artemis and moved up through the ranks until she could smash skulls alongside the strongest warriors. Sam is no weakling who needs to be protected by some hot headed man she kicks butt all by herself, and she has a knack for finding trouble. She will fight any monster that gets in the way of saving the people she loves. Dev will walk through hell just to save Sam and to protect her. The fight scenes in this novel get your blood pounding and keep you from putting this book down for even a second.

All in all I love everything about this book and I recommend it to anyone who has any interest in mythology, action, adventure, or romance.

Dark Visions Character Sketch pt 2

This book is a romance with a dash of action, a sprinkle of intrigue, and a dozen pounds of drama. The center of all this is Kaitlyn Fairchild a moody teenage girl with psychic powers.

Throughout her childhood Kaitlyn was accused of being a witch for her visions: obscure visions that foretold of events. Ostracized by her peers Kaitlyn became shuttered and emotionless, unable to interact with others. Years later she's the same with an unnatural aversion to the male population, she suffers through high school. After she is brought to the Zetes Institute Kaitlyn finds herself enamored with a boy for the first time. She used to be calm and collected and now shes flustered and looking anything but put together.

Perturbed over the kind boy with a southern drawl Kaitlyn is not ready to meet a delinquent with intense eyes and a broken past. Angered by the dark haired Gabriel, Kaitlyn is terrified of the enigmatic criminal. As the book progresses Kaitlyn's animosity towards Gabriel fades to an antagonistic annoyance. Meanwhile Kaitlyn's feelings toward Rob get more and more confused, her and Rob are now the perfect couple happy in every way, the only thing that stands in their way is rapidly changing circumstances and a killer looking for forgiveness.

When she is captured and held prisoner in an isolation tank her only hope is Gabriel, his thoughts and memories are the only link to reality that she has. To make sure he can stay telepathically connected to her he knows the bond will work better when hes in pain, so he burns his arm and cuts it open, poking at the sores to keep the bond strong even when exhaustion threatens to overwhelm him. While connected telepathically they can see everything about each other and what Kaitlyn sees both shocks and amazes her; he loves her more than he cares for his own life, and he would crawl belly over broken glass just to make her smile. Gabriel realizes something even more surprising; the girl he loves returns those feelings. And though Kaitlyn still loves Rob she realizes that she cares for him like a brother, and nothing more.

Kaitlyn has smokey blue eyes like no one else, hair like autumn-fire, and her body build is slight and slim like a willow, with Irish cream skin to complete her looks.

Kaitlyn is strong willed, introverted, though she can be kind at times, she is also known to use her odd eyes as weapons against others. She can be harsh and quiet but shes devoted and can be very friendly.

Kind of what I imagine her to look like but her hair is longer.

Dark Visions pt 3 Settings

The novel Dark Visions takes place in many locations starting with Kaitlyn's hometown in Ohio, then following her to San Carlos California where the Zetes Institute is located. Next up her and her group travel up along the west cost from California all the way to Vancouver Island where the group meets up with The Fellowship.

This novel is set around roughly 2009 though it has no official dates or times in the novel itself.

The location of this book reminds me of a trip I took to parts of the east coast in Canada both sides of Canada have valleys and thick green forests, plus all the alcoves that they mention sounds like the outskirts of the coast.

And I would describe the circumstances but I think I'v made those very clear.

Grave Mercy Character Connection

Today I have to do a piece for my English class in which I must make a connection between a theme, character, or plot idea and myself. The novel I will be using is called Grave Mercy. My connection is to the lead character Ismae, an assassin for the god of death St. Mortain, though I am no assassin I feel a connection to this heroin for one reason in particular, she is not a Mary Sue. Almost every lead female character of our generation is a Mary Sue, a completely useless character that waits to be saved by a boy. Ismae on the other hand is a break from the norm as it stands she is a breath of fresh air. After overcoming a horrible ordeal at the age of 14 she is whisked away to take refuge in a convent of the god of death St. Mortain, rather than weep and become an emotional wreck she chooses to become an assassin for her new lord and god. Three hard years later she is an entirely new person, no longer a weak girl she is now a strong vibrant woman.

If I was in her position I would have made all the same choices, because I feel like our personalities are somewhat similar. I would choose to move on like she did, as well if I was given the option of serving the death god himself I wouldn't hesitate to say yes. Another common trait that we have would be that we both would rather think things through than react with pure emotion guiding us. And probably the most obvious thing we have in common would be our stubborn personalities, neither of us will give ground once we dig our heels in. I love this heroin more than most of the others because I feel like I can connect with this easily infuriated girl.

So to wrap this up, I feel like Ismae and I are very close in personality and in the way that we think. As well I believe it was a pleasure getting to read about this impressive character and I would love to see more like her. Strong willed and with a temper to boot she is my ideal connection to a character.

The cover of this wonderful book.
